Before starting the installation of Franz Messenger App, update the package and repository of Ubuntu 18.04 using the command given below.

After updating the Packages & Repositories now we have to download the Franz Messenger App from its official website. So use the below command to download the same.

As you can see below I have already downloaded the Franz Messenger App .deb package. Refer to the output below.

The Franz Messenger app is a portable app. So we do not need to install it. We can only extract the .tgz package for this application. To create a directory for that and extract the package in it. Here I am creating a directory named Franz.
itsmarttricks@mangesh:~$ mkdir franz
Now go ahead and extract the package using the command below.
itsmarttricks@mangesh:~$ tar -xzvf Franz-linux-x64-4.0.4.tgz -C franz/ ./ ./resources/ ./resources/electron.asar ./resources/app.asar ./resources/default_app.asar ./resources/app.asar.unpacked/ ./resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/ ./resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/node-notifier/ ./resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/node-notifier/vendor/ ./resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/node-notifier/vendor/toaster/ ./resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/node-notifier/vendor/toaster/Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.dll ./resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/node-notifier/vendor/toaster/toast.exe
Now change the directory Franz and check that the package is extracted properly.

We extracted the package successfully as you can see it on the above output. Here we have a script file named Franz. Use the following command to start the Franz Messenger app.
